One of the most overlooked factors with baby safety gates is the installation process. You may have found the perfect baby safety gate for your use and it has the right dimensions, but making sure it is placed properly and correctly is more important.

Babies tend to lean on baby safety gates, especially since they frequently try to push it or go over it. It is therefore necessary that the baby gate is installed correctly. Here are some points on how to properly install your gates.

First, read the given instructions carefully. Would it be alright if you install the gate on cylindrical banisters? Some gates require flat surfaces; they seldom hold firmly over uneven or round surfaces. You can purchase a wall mounting kit to solve this problem. You can buy them in your local department store like Wal-Mart or to a home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowe's.

Second, would one side be attached to a plaster or a hollow wall? These types of walls are not strong enough to serve as posts. When pushed, this wall might break away from the original wall and with the gate that you have installed. Again, a wall mounting kit can help in this aspect. If you have a wall that is dry-walled and you are unsure where the studs are, you can use a stud-finder. This way, you can be confident that you attached your gate on sturdy foundation.

Third, if the gates need to be screwed to the wall, make sure that the screws are long enough to actually reach the wall and be fixed in it. Some gates have short screws that can easily be pulled from the wall.

Fourth, after fixing the gates to the wall, try it out for yourself. It is important that you would be able to gauge the firmness of the gate. Don't push too hard, though. Try to place pressure that is only slightly stronger than the pressure that your child may place on it. Any slight change in the fixing of the baby safety gate mean that you have to re-install it because it if not placed firmly enough.

Fifth, check the opening and closing system of your baby safety gates. Sometimes, an embossed part of the door or the wall prevents you from being and to open and close the gate freely. Baby safety gates are usually more than two feet in height; you cannot easily go over them in the instance that you cannot open the gates for yourself. Also, check the latches or locks that will keep the baby safety gates locked. Make sure they don't easily break or come off after a little push from your baby.

Finally, after affixing the baby safety gates, you must check the whole item for wood splinters or wood scratches that can cause a cut. You wouldn't want your little kid to get a cut while running his hands through it.

This particular metal fence is safe to use around a swimming pool, which is something to consider when installing your fence. Before you set the posts in concrete, install the caps on top. Then make sure the bottom fence rail is 2 inches above the ground to allow for lawn work. Mark your posts where the ground line will be. When working with prefabricated fence panels, you only want to dig a few post holes at a time. There are some simple home projects which you do not need to go out and hire some expensive contractor or carpenter. One of these which you yourself can do is a wooden gate for your yard.

Relax, making a wooden gate all by ourselves is an exciting adventure and doesn't need to be hard or impossible. If we do everything systematically it shouldn't be too hard. To build a wooden gate we need the right design for a specific purpose.

In making a wooden gate ourselves the first thing we need to do is design it. This means we take exact measurements based on the width of the opening where we want to put up the gate. We also consider the height of the fence around it. Everything must be complementary, after all we want form and functionality, right?

Then we buy the needed wood pieces-4 by 4 inches latch and hinge posts, gate frames measuring 2 by 4 inches and picket wood pieces measuring 1 by 2 inches. These are mere suggestions; wood sizes may vary depending on our wooden gate design. We also need screws, some nails, 3 to 4 hinge sets, and the latch. The sizes and number of pieces depend on the size of the wooden gate.

We dig holes for the latch and hinge posts. A depth of 3 feet, more or less, ought to do. Insert one end of the posts into the holes and reinforce with rocks and earth intact at the sides to keep it from moving. Or pour concrete at the sides. Then we install horizontal frames for the wooden gate fitting the gateway. We also fix the gate hinges permanently to the hinge post.

Then we install the diagonal frames. Measure them to accurately fit the horizontal frames. To attach, drill holes through them and the horizontal frames and insert long screws. Mark spots, which are evenly spaced, allotted for the pickets. Use a square. Then attach them to the wooden gate using nails or screws at their bottom side. Two screws or nails each would do.

Finally, re-mount the wooden gate. Detach the gate to render the wood to a smooth finish and accurate fitting by scraping extra wood thickness. Then re-mount by attaching again to the hinges permanently. Make sure the wooden gate opens and closes to and from its jamb or latch post smoothly.

It is best to make the wooden gate right where we intend to install it. This enables us to get the actual measurement needed and base the wooden gate dimensions from it. Handle carpentry tools and materials with the greatest care and make sure to wear fitting gloves when hammering nails, driving screws, or cutting with a saw.

Make sure all tools are in good condition, like ensuring that the chisel or plain blades are sharp. Sharp tools make the work easier and safer. Wear a carpentry apron if necessary.
